Role of the Mayor

The mayor is basically the Chief Executive Officer for the City and shall perform the duties of Mayor as stated in Wisconsin Statue § 62.09(8). The mayor is elected during the spring election to serve a four-year term.

Mayoral Responsibilities

The mayor also has the responsibilities, which may or may not be delegated to other city officers or employees.
These responsibilities include:

• Representation of the city in all ceremonial functions when present in the city.

• Appointments of all city council committee members and all city board and commission members except such persons designated to membership by statute or municipal code 2-1272 .

• Review and revision of the annual operating executive budget prepared by the finance director prior to submitting such budget to the finance committee.

• Executive liaison and representative of the city in official contacts between the city and other governmental units.

• Ex officio membership of all city council committees.

• Membership on the board of review under Municipal Code section 2-356

• Membership on the utilities committee.

• Membership on the firefighter's pension board under section 2-456

• Chair of the plan commission under sections 2-376 and 2-377

• Negotiation as necessary for the city with reference to business and industrial development.
